How do Glucocard Expression Test Strips work?
- When a drop of blood is put on the test strip, glucose in the blood reacts with glucose oxidase to produce gluconic acid.
- A current is transferred by the glucose meter to the other end of the test strip.
- Electric terminals on the glucose monitoring strips allow the meter to calculate the current between the terminals.
- The current between the terminals is changed according to the level of gluconic acid produced.
- Then an algorithm is used by the blood glucose meter to calculate the blood glucose level on the basis of the difference in current.
- Some of the diabetic test strips allow the users to reapply more blood to the same strip if required during the test.
