The Lipid Profile cassette measures total cholesterol (TC; which is a measure of the total amount of cholesterol in the blood at any given time), High density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (referred to as the “good cholesterol”) and triglycerides or TRG (fatty acids and glycerol that circulate in the blood and are stored as body fat). Lipid Profile also calculates the TC/HDL ratio, non-HDL cholesterol, and estimates the level of LDL cholesterol (referred to as the “bad cholesterol”). TC values of less than 200mg/dL are desirable. HDL levels greater than or equal to 60 mg/dL are protective. Normal fasting TRG levels should be below 150 mg/dL. LDL levels are optimal below 100 mg/dL.
