Instructions For Use
Operating Instructions
- Do not use the speaking valve during sleep.
- The opening of the speaking valve may be covered or the speaking valve may unintentionally be turned to speaking mode resulting in restricted breathing.
- During sleep, use a Provox XtraHME cassette or a Provox HME Cap assembled with a HME cassette.
How to Assemble?
- Place the HME cassette on a flat surface with the plastic grid down and the open foam surface up.
- Place the speaking valve on top of the HME cassette and push it straight down until it clicks in place.
- Check that the speaking valve is firmly attached to the HME cassette.
- Caution: Use of non-Provox accessories may cause product malfunction and harm to the user.
Insertion and Usage
- Insert the Provox FreeHands FlexiVoice into the connector of the Provox HME attachment device.
- Keep your breath normal.
- Switch the device between the modes by rotating the top of the speaking valve until it stops in each position.
- Caution: Rotate only the top of the speaking valve when changing modes, not the entire device.
Cleaning Instructions
In order to keep the speaking valve in a good working condition and to avoid build-up of microorganisms, it should be cleaned and disinfected daily.
- Remove the HME cassette from the speaking valve.
- Rinse the speaking valve carefully on both sides under lukewarm (20-40 °C) drinking water while rotating the lid back and forth for 2 minutes.
- Mix 2 drops of dish soap in 250ml warm (35-45 °C) drinking water. Do not use boiling water since this may damage the speaking valve.
- Put the speaking valve in speaking mode and place the speaking valve in the mixture for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the speaking valve on both sides in warm (35-45 °C) drinking water for 15 seconds.
- In order to reach all parts of the speaking valve, be sure that it is switched between speaking and locked mode a couple of times during rinsing.
- Inspect the device regarding mucus and debris residues. Repeat the steps above if necessary.
- After cleaning, place the speaking valve in speaking mode on clean gauze and leave it to air-dry for at least 2 hours.
- Caution: Do not use the speaking valve until it is completely dry. Inhalation of disinfectant fumes can cause severe coughing and irritation of the airways.
Storage Instructions
- When not in use, clean and disinfect the speaking valve as described above and then store it in a clean and dry container at room temperature. Protect from direct sunlight.
Disposal
- Always follow medical practice and national requirements regarding biohazards when disposing of a used medical device.
Precautions
- Do not administer medicated nebulizer treatment over the device since the medication can become deposited in the device.
- Do not use humidifiers or heated humidified oxygen via a mask over the tracheostoma while using the device.
- Do not modify the product. The speaking function and/or HME function will be lost.
Warning
- Do not use the HME cassette without assembling it first with Provox FreeHands FlexiVoice Speaking Valve.
- Do not use Provox FreeHands FlexiVoice with any other attachment devices than original Provox HME attachment devices.
- Do not reuse any part of the Provox FreeHands FlexiVoice between patients. This may cause cross contamination. The device is intended for single patient use only.
